Intel details performance improvements for Arrow Lake CPUs.

Intel’s Arrow Lake CPUs, released in October, promised high performance with lower power consumption but received mixed reviews, particularly for gaming. Critics, including Tom Warren, noted that the Core Ultra 9 285K often performed worse than the 14th Gen chips it aimed to replace.

Intel now says it has identified and addressed most of the issues through updates, as reported by Tom’s Hardware. Robert Hallock, Intel’s VP of Client AI and Technical Marketing, explained in an interview with HotHardware that the problems stemmed from four main issues, which have been gradually resolved over the past two weeks through updates.

One problem involved a delayed update to optimize Windows’ processor power management (PPM) system for Core Ultra 200S-series CPUs. The delay caused reviewers to experience subpar performance since the missing update also prevented Intel’s Application Performance Optimizer (APO) from improving gaming performance. Additionally, “misconfigured” performance settings negatively impacted benchmark results.

A fix for these issues has already been included in Windows 11 build 26100.2161. Intel also confirmed that Epic Games resolved a driver compatibility problem with Easy Anti-Cheat that caused crashes in games like Star Wars Outlaws.

Looking ahead, Intel plans to release further performance enhancements for Arrow Lake CPUs in January, with a full performance update expected at CES. In the meantime, the company recommends updating Windows and applying the latest BIOS updates.
